Why I love The Sartorialist

If you haven’t heard of The Sartorialist yet, then you have to go check out Scott Schuman’s blog immediately.  What he does, is he goes out to the streets and snaps photos of street fashion.  What’s remarkable about this, is that it shows you what the fashion is on the streets of Milan, New York, Paris, London etc.  You see a wide array of body types, styles, ages and quirks all with a different style or fashion sense.

Another reason why I love The Sartorialist, is because it’s a fountain of ideas. Oftentimes you see more creativity in the people he photographs than you do in the magazines or runways. It’s a sort of realistic creativity that gives you day to day fashion ideas. It’s a source of fresh people and fashion.

High end fashion often appears to be made for certain athletic and thin body types, but in the streets you see what really works on all people. Labels like D&G and Versace can leave you with a jaded feeling, with their uber-tailored and skinny cuts. Their ideal have become far too exaggerated and unattainable for the layman. Fashion doesn’t exist solely for those with perfect genetics, it exists for all and let’s you overcome genetic foibles. Take a look at the basic suit. It’s continual popularity can be traced back to aesthetic qualities. The cut of a suit naturally enhances the silhouette of almost any man who wears one. With The Sartorialist you can see how this works on more than just male models.
